From the Stars

The first body we found little more than a dried up husk. It hadn't been there for long. It still had a full kit, ammo, rifle, half pack of cigarettes in the chest pocket. No visible wounds. His uniform was unfamiliar, not one of ours. Like us, he had no flag on his sleeve. I stuffed the cigarettes into my pocket and pulled its cap over its face. About as much ceremony as any of us deserved. We got the signal to proceed and made our way deeper into the structure. In the maze of hallways we found more bodies, desiccated, no wounds. All dead without firing a shot. We had no idea what we were dealing with. We weren't the first to try. I put my wristwatch to my ear to make sure it was still ticking. It's an old habit. We hadn't been told where we're going or why. We had no idea how big this thing was. And we weren't alone.
O' body heat, caress thy wicked sense
Let man's image penetrate the clouding lens
May we see an end to our gnawing frustration
From the stars to the cradle of creation
We started back tracking our way though the structure. Our pace steadily quickened, we felt followed. Our hurried footsteps echoed on the metal walk ways. We should have been out of there in just a few minutes, but instead we seemed to be going in circles. I was breathing sharply, fighting feelings of panic, trying to remember the way out. That's when I felt it. A penetrating cold in my chest. I choked on my breath, unable to move, suddenly paralyzed, held my some terrible force.
May the void bless this feast, may the bounty never cease
May the fluid ever flow, may our young grow and grow
We blessed few to become the crimson hue
Shall make a paradise of this world anew
The air filled with a plume of crimson. A network of veins took shape around me, the scarlet fluid outlining a bloated form floating in the air. I could feel a cold gelatinous digit probe the inside of my mouth. My eyes were locked open, enslaved to the horror unfolding before me; my blood curdled in its gut and flared throughout its tissue. The tip of my finger brushed the hilt of my knife. Rage boiled up from the depths of me and brought my last remaining strength with it. I heard my watch tick.
I grit my teeth
And lashed out with the blade
Felt the spray from wound I had made
Pushed the horror aside and rose to my feet
I'm gonna take you with me!
The others closed in with menacing glee
Floating and bloated with eyes hungry
I felt overwhelmed with the will to survive
I roared like a lion and lunged with my knife
We obedient to the old ones ways
Drink to them to slow our prey
To give us strength in the face of leaded sting
To the glorious hunt, may sustenance it bring

Revenge of Julian Modely

I realized that this book was just the sort of thing I had been looking for. Upon these crumbling yellowed pages was the key to my revenge. No longer would I suffer their ridicule, ignorance, and prejudice. No longer would I rush quietly through the halls, desperate to avoid yet another encounter with their toothy insults and pointing fingers. Finally they will learn some respect! Finally, they would learn to submit to me, Julian Modely.
I whispered the words, careful not to awaken my idiot room mate, Harold. "Tibi, Magnum Innominandum, signa stellarum nigrarum et bufoniformis Sadoquae sigillum". Nothing happened. I read them again, slightly louder, this time eliciting a tired groan from the slumbering fat-boy. I felt an almost imperceptible vibration in the air. A shudder shook the room. Then, before my wide eyes, Harold's flabby body levitated above his bed. His eyes popped open and his hands grasped outwards in half-woken panic. His eyes began to bulge. Some thing shown in the pale light, some sort of cloud enveloping him. It slowly took on more depth as Harold's body contorted and stiffened. Soon I could make out horrid claws, mandibles, and grotesque sucking appendages. Things had taken a turn for the better.
The summoned Abomination:
Who the fuck has woken us up?
Their death will be painful but quick
Let us go back to sleep
Cease your whispering
This infernal noise must end
Julian Modely:
It was me!
The new master
Of the mysteries of the worm
I demand
Your service
Enemies must be made to learn
Poor, fat Harold, firmly held in the entities grasp, mummified before my eyes, his blood drained into the creatures body, revealing its misshapen form. The horror floated in mid-air, pulsating with unmistakable life. Its multitude of mouths glistened in the moon light. It was magnificent. Finally, my time had arrived. I would let the horror loose on all those who have defied me. Every boy who pummeled me, every girl who squealed in disgust at my advances. Every teacher who caught me day dreaming and endeavored to make a fool of me in front of the entire class. All will pay dearly. I will set this invisible terror upon all them, without mercy.
The summoned Abomination:
You are great among fools
And twice that naive
We suffer no living thing
We obey no rules
Nor follow no law
In chaos, we reign supreme
Julian Modely:
I read the black tome over and over
It said you would be mine to control
I would set you upon every bully and bitch
And slowly take over this miserable world
The summoned Abomination:
You're ours now!
You will do our bidding, creature!
You're ours now!
You will be mine to control

The Expidition

Professor Warner O'Neill:
I have decided to record what will surely be the last hours of my life. I am the sole survivor of the expedition. So far I have been able to find some safety in this chamber, but I know the barred door won't last much longer.
The creature loomed before us
Resplendent in wickedness
But invisible to our senses
We grasped at nothingness
I am no longer sure of what day it is or how long I have been trapped here. I hold no hope for rescue. My only hope is that the information in this recording may help the next expedition stop this terror that has killed us all.
Ghosts of the Expedition:
Frozen and timeless
Encysted, dormant, dessicated
Drawn to the heat
Of the life-glow and death exhausted
Friction, then impact
Awakened by the penetration
Mindless, but omnipotent
Driven by the only truth
Professor Warner O'Neill:
Light bends around this dripping sphere
I feel it penetrate into my deepest fear
It is invisible but its breathing I can hear
I can feel its tongue rasping at my inner ear
Mighty tentacles wrap 'round my neck
It tries to take me in, but I must not let it
How do we fight what cannot even see?
How do we fight when we can't even breathe?
Bastard
Creature
Spawned of chaos old
The Invisible Hunter:
When it's all done, you'll be a part of me
Circulating systemically
Horror unfolds in the silent cold
I'll never release my hold
Professor Warner O'Neill:
The creature loomed before us
Resplendent in wickedness
But invisible to our senses
We grasped at nothingness
It drank deeply of our essence
Showing itself in a crimson plume
Prolonging the exquisite agony
Showing us the future as it consumed
The creature proved invulnerable to our weapons. All attempts to destroy the thing were fruitless. It drove us deeper into the catacombs and then picked us off one by one. It is almost completely invisible until it feeds.
Ghosts of the Expedition:
Searching the airless wastes
Its thirst grew on through the eons
Now its lust is only matched
By the numbers of screaming fluid sacks
Oblivious to the haunting threat
Defenseless against attack
Picked off one by one
Embraced by the starborn horror
Professor Warner O'Neill:
Alien mind with earthly intent
Tissue and plasma and intellect
Your mind and body it will both infect
You're the nutrient it has come to collect
As it feeds, its form comes to light
Gelatinous veins and brains shining bright
Your flesh is infested, your mind is bested
Defenses tested, nothing is wasted
Bastard
Creature
Spawned of chaos old
The Invisible Hunter:
When it's all done, you'll be a part of me
Circulating systemically
Horror unfolds in the silent cold
I'll never release my hold
Professor Warner O'Neill:
The creature loomed before us
Resplendent in wickedness
But invisible to our senses
We grasped at nothingness
It drank deeply of our essence
Showing itself in a crimson plume
Prolonging the exquisite agony
Showing us the future as it consumed
It has been steadily exerting force on the door. The ancient timbers are beginning to splinter. Whoever finds this, I implore you, the catacombs must be sealed shut. I fear that the energy the beast has consumed are for reproductive purposes.
The Invisible Hunter:
I will not go
Back to the cold
I will not go
Back to the cold
Professor Warner O'Neill:
The creature loomed before us
Resplendent in wickedness
But invisible to our senses
We grasped at nothingness
It drank deeply of our essence
Showing itself in a crimson plume
Prolonging the exquisite agony
Showing us the future as it consumed
The Invisible Hunter:
I will not go
Back to the cold
I will not go
Back to the fucking cold
